Advanced preparation of documents in English for your health condition and/or current treatment will be useful should you need to visit a medical institution in Japan.
There is a set of rules to be followed for people who need to carry medical narcotics or psychotic drugs for treatment purposes. Medical narcotics must be approved by the Director-General of the Local Welfare Bureau in advance.
Procedures for psychotic drugs vary depending on the total amount of medicine needed to be carried.
It is not possible to import, export, mail, nor let acquaintances carry drugs on your behalf. Note that Japan has very strict punishment for importation of even small amounts of medical narcotics, so you should be sure to follow its procedures carefully to avoid potential legal consequences - including prison or deportation - for bringing even small quantities of medical narcotics with you.
It is also important that you be aware of over-the-counter medicines available in other countries that are considered illegal in Japan.
